Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

Aviation research and development has flourished in Dayton, Ohio where large flying fields were established in 1917. First, McCook Field was built at what is now the intersection of State Route 4 and Interstate 75. Then Wilbur Wright Field was established where the present runway is. Project Blue Book

From 1947 to 1969, the Air Force investigated Unidentified Flying Objects under Project Blue Book. The project, headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, was terminated Dec. 17, 1969. Of a total of 12,618 sightings reported to Project Blue Book, 701 remained “unidentified.” (more…)

Hawkeye Hill

Hawkeye Hill gets it’s name from the Cammo Dudes who spend most of their day watching tourists from this perch.

Because Area 51 border security frequent this place, even though half of it is on public land, this campsite is not for the casual traveler, or the faint of heart. Though only feet from the border, this tent-camping site is only for brave, or truly stupid. While the road that security vehicles use to get to this spot is well within the base, the actual vantage point is on public land, and technically, you can camp here–though you do so at your own risk.
