The Black Mailbox
This famous mailbox was once thought to be a letter drop for Area 51, and while it is no longer black, it remains as a required stop for anyone taking the pilgrimage to the front gates of America’s most secret military installation. Sky watchers first gathered here when Bob Lazar suggested it as the place to view air traffic above Area 51, and it continues to be a place that many gather to view the sky at night.
While you can actually camp anywhere along HWY 375, as it is all public land, the Back Mailbox also serves as a good camping choice. There is plenty of flat ground to the right of mailbox road, and you will likely run into some fellow sky watchers visiting the area.
A note: while this area provides no amenities, it is located less than 25 miles from the gas station in Ash Springs, and less than 20 miles from the Little A’Le’Inn in Rachel.
Directions: Take Hwy 375 to halfway between Lincoln County mile markers 29 and 30. Traveling northwest, you should see a white mailbox to the left of the road, as well as an unmarked road that intersects with HWY 375.
